This goes for events at the church or away from the church. This cancelation can be published letting everyone know that the event will not meet at that day and time.

Retired missionary passes away

John Lawrence Miller, a minister member of Palo Duro Presbytery, died Jan. 6.

He was born on Aug. 2, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo. He attended Amarillo Junior College (1942), Trinity University (1942-1945), Princeton Theological Seminary (1945-1947), and Union Theological Seminary (1947-1949).

The Rev. Miller was ordained in June 1949 by Amarillo Presbytery (PCUSA), an antecedent presbytery of Palo Duro Presbytery.

He and his wife Margaret Jean (Everheart) Miller served as missionaries in Brazil beginning in 1955 until his retirement in 1990.

He and his wife received support from Presbyterian Women of First Presbyterian Church through these years.

The Presbyterian Women formed the Jean Miller Circle in honor of John’s wife, Jean.

He continued to live and work in Brazil after his retirement. After the death of his wife a few years ago, he remarried to Elinete, a native of Brazil.
