Ministry changes name
but mission stays the same

For several years, First Presbyterian Church has participated in Georgia's Angel Food Ministry through Cornerstone Outreach Center. Now, though, Cornerstone is launching its own food ministry, and FPC will be continuing the successful partnership we have had with Cornerstone. The program will be Manna Ministries.

The basic mission of the food ministry will be the same — provide $60 to $75 worth of quality food for $25 each month. Cornerstone is teaming up with Affiliated Foods with the goal of creating a local ministry that serves Amarillo and the surrounding states. Those who have benefitted from Angel Food Ministries should see very little change, except that the food boxes will now include better meat and local products.

The boxes of food will still cost $25, and specials will be available for an additional cost. There is no longer a limit on the number of specials you can order. The March menu is listed below, and orders must be placed by 5 p.m. March 12. Everyone is invited to take advantage of Manna Ministries — there are no income restrictions. Members are also encouraged to purchase boxes for those in need.

In February, we received 31 “open" orders that allowed us to provide food for many needy families. For more information about Manna Ministries, contact Elease Wood, 372-7979, or Dorsey Wilmarth, 379-7272. Orders should be turned in to Charlotte Kinch at the church.

Manna Ministries touching lives

What is Manna Ministries?

Manna Ministries is designed to provide quality food at a low price to anyone who might benefit from such an opportunity.

How does it work?

For $25, you can order a food box designed to feed a family of four for a week. The food is not second-hand or out-of-date. It is good quality food from name brand and well-known suppliers, and would cost $50-$75 if purchased in your local grocery store. Manna Ministries, started by Amarillo's Cornerstone Outreach, distributes this food in the Panhandle and surrounding states.

Anyone can purchase a food box!

There are no special qualifications and no limits on the number of food boxes you can purchase. You can purchase a food box for yourself, for a friend, for a group, for a family you know in need.

Why are we doing this?

Our ministry's main “mission" is service and outreach through addressing financial and nutritional needs of the Amarillo community.

Can I help?

Yes! There are a couple of ways you can help. First, you can order a box of food for someone who needs it. Second, volunteers are needed once a month when we distribute the food. This month, distribution will be April 30. Please come to the church about 8:30 a.m. We'll be done by noon.
